This is a decent book if you are looking for a brief, general survey of HVAC troubleshooting. The format is concise and well organized, however it is definitely lacking in details and complete, accurate explanations. It would be much better if there were solutions to at least some of the troubleshooting problems.

NOT WHAT YOU WANT IN A TROUBLESHOOTING BOOK AT ALL. VERY LITTLE IN THE WAY OF EXPLANATION. HARDLY ANY GOOD SYSTEM ANALYSIS. But if you are looking for answers to the trouble shooting questions in the book to double check yours, look somewhere else because they are not in the book. That being said you will never know if you were right or not, there is not even a teachers guide to the book for answers

Beautiful! Thought provoking! Touching!

This small book of Francis Thompson's poems is a beautiful experience. "The Hound of Heaven" is the crowning glory of the piece. How often I have found my self running from the "Footsteps" following me. I think the line "All which I took from thee I did but take, Not for thy harms, But just that thou might'st seek it in My arms." is one of the most comforting to those who have lost and suffered. Also very special are Daisy and Little Jesus. Francis Thompson was born before his time a little appreciated then but he is definitely a poet for our moral declining culture. I am fancinated by his love of nature. I would recomend these little poems to anyone who feels lost, afraid, alone and in pain, and to anyone who wants to feel closer to God.

Worth a try

I bought this little book 30 years ago and, though I do not often read it, I treasure it. Thompson was a very troubled alcoholic I believe and though his prose can be extremely difficult to unravel, it is worth a try. He has some amazing insights into Jesus' determined and pursuing love for us: the faster we run from him, the faster he runs after us. It is an honest account of conversion.

A nice little book

What a nice little book of poetry (soft cover) makes it a good value. Of course "The Hound of Heaven" is wonderful, but check out "Little Jesus" on page 71. It will bring a tear to your eye.

Home At Last is excellent reading!

I really enjoyed reading Home At Last. In my opinion, It is beautifully written and refreshing. It directs us to the predicted Second Coming of Jesus Christ, uses scriptures to illustrate the events that will take place prior to and after the Second Coming , and then directs us to the new earth predicted in Revelation and other prophecies in the Bible. I read it periodically, especially when I see or hear about all of the terrorist acts, unthinkable major crimes, natural disasters, and other problems indicating that this world is in a downward spiral!

Excellent book

This book describes one astounding experience after another. If you're having a hard time and you want direction in your life, follow the example of Pavel Goia: depend on God for everything and He will take care of you. The stories of how he got to the university, how he started businesses, and printed church-related materials in communist Romania are amazing. It's a book that is hard to put down.

Great story about faith

I really enjoyed this story. I was really amazed by the many miracles that happened in Pavel Goia's life. If you want to be inspired by the things God can do for someone who puts their trust in Him, then this is a great read for you!

After reading this, you should read: A Thousand Shall Fall:: The Electrifying Story of a Soldier and His Family Who Dared to Practice Their Faith in Hitler's Germany. These are two great books that will really strengthen your faith!!

Fantastic Beyond Belief

Pavel's story is one that you can't put down...nor will it allow you to look at your own spiritual life the same. After reading this book, look up his seminar on prayer on the web at prayerseminar.org. I just finished that seminar and am SO thankful to God for all the info in it. The stories in this book, and in the seminar are absolutely amazing. They'll leave you awestruck and totally amazed at God's Providences.

Great Midrash

This is a wonderful book. Each story is carefuly crafted writing and very good reading. The Introduction and the Notes to the reader help give backround in Midrash for the unintiated and make the tales themselves more understandable.

Havdala was terrific. The concept of pale Eve meeting dark Lilith in the Garden of Eden on the eve of shabbat and discovering her "womanhood" transported me.

Reading Naamah was like chatting with and listening to the wise women who helped me through the rough times in my life.

The Daughters of Tzelafchad reminded me that we each have to claim our share of worldy goods but we must be wise about how we do it.

It had never occured to me to see Queen Vashti as another victim. The story opened my eyes to looking at things in a new way.

If Jill Hammer wrote the book as a teaching tool it worked with me.

An amazing book

I loved Sisters at Sinai. The book consists of 23 short stories with a wide range of themes. But these aren't just any short stories; these are Midrashim, tales which weave in and around the text of the Bible. With some, Hammer takes a well-known passage in the Bible (Lot's wife is turned into a pillar of salt) and brings it to life. Others take a passage which even close readers of the Bible have probably overlooked and turns it into a gripping narrative. While Hammer writes from a woman's perspective, both the men and the women in the stories are treated with respect and are three-dimensional. The notes section at the end of the book grounds this modern rethinking of Bible with traditional (and modern) Jewish thinking about the Bible. This is Hammer's first book, and I can't wait to see more from her fertile imagination.

A Book Every Adventist Should Read

A few years ago I joined a start up Sabbath School class dedicated with understanding the 28 Fundemental Beliefs, being a fifth-generation Seventh-day Adventist it was important to me to understand the beliefs that had shaped my family's history. At the beginning of the year we decided to look into how the denomination's beliefs, or understandings of beliefs, developed from the Great Disappointment in October 1844 to the present-day thus leading to us to this book to study in our exploration.

George R. Knight cames it clear at the beginning that his book is for the general Adventist audience and will provide an informed overview of the issues defined the theological development of Seventh-day Adventism, he succeeds tremendously. Knight's writing style makes for easy reading and his dividing up of the 150-years into four eras helps keep things very organized.

Knight begins by showing the theological thoughts that shaped the demoninations founders and pioneers before they joined the Millerite movement in the late 1830s and early 1840s leading up to the Great Disappointment, as well as the idea of "present truth" in which God would reveal further truth as time passes thus resulting in them NOT developing ironclad creeds. Knight then examines three eras in Adventist theological development in which the demonination seemed to concentrate on what Adventist, Christian, and Fundementalist in Adventism. From 1844 to 1885, the denomination developed the distinct Adventist pillars that made Seventh-day Advenists different from other Christian denomination and how they evangilized. However, Advenists seemed to forget they were Christians and from 1886 to 1919 the denomination struggled to re-emphasize what was Christian. As they did so they entered the liberal and fundementalist Christian debate wholehearedly on the fundementalist side that from 1920 to 1950 resulted in the creation was what some Adventists today think as 'historical Adventism" that the denomination still struggles with today. From 1950 onwards, Knight explains that all three themes (Adventist, Christian, and Fundementalist) in Seventh-day Adventist theological development have been interacting with one another resulting in issues arising or re-emerging creating polarized camps on one side or another.

Throughout the book, Knight gives the views of the denomination's leadership and how Ellen White viewed the issues that arose while she was alive. However I want to strongly point out that Knight doesn't cite Mrs. White as being the authority in the answer to an issue discussed in fact he strongly points to Mrs. White's on words that the answer would be found in the Bible and the Bible alone. Knight's use of Mrs. White will upset both the left/progressive and right/conservative wings of Adventism thus showing he is using her in the correct context and one that she most likely would have approved. And throughout the book, Knight recommends books if the reader wants to explore more in-depth a particular issue or position covered.

I strongly recommend this book to every Adventist, especially younger Adventists in high school. This book was first published in 2000 and if I had known about it when I was a senior in Collegedale Academy/freshman at Southern Adventist University it would have helped answer a lot of questions that began with "Why" that it took a long time to find answer.
