fascinating story, shoddily presented

the story of the former mrs. judith ridgway is simultaneously fascinating and tragic. this book provides a lot of information about her life prior to marrying gary ridgway, as well as the story of how she found out about his crimes and how she tried to cope with them. there are lots of interesting facts, along with photos, copies of letters, etc.

unfortunately, this is the author's first book, and it shows. the volume could have done with a thorough proofreading and editing. also, the book's title -- which reads only as "Green River Serial Killer" on the spine -- is pretty misleading. this isn't gary's story, it's judith's. yet gary is there alone on the cover (against a backdrop of one of his letters to judith), with a caption explaining the scars on his arm. the design looks cheap & exploitative, and is not really representative of the book inside.

the book ends with a lengthy chapter in which the author gets to show off her professional handwriting analysis skills with samples of gary's letters. the chapter is overlong and, to this reader, fairly tedious and unnecessary.

five stars for the story, knocked down to 3 stars because of the quality of the presentation.

Having been aware of this book from it's beginning and knowing all the people involved, I thought I pretty well knew all about it. I was very wrong. There are things in this book that I did not know about, once I started reading I could not put it down.

It is quite apparent that after you see What Judith went through in her childhood and then the almost unbelievable first marriage, you can see why she thought Gary Ridgway was her Knight in Shining Armor, she was pre-programmed for him. Very good reading.

Judith opened herself up in an extraordinary way. Sharing her personal life in an unabashed manor that gave greater insight into Gary Ridgway. I appreciate all that she went through as his final victim so to speak in an extreme way. take care Judith!

Offering the full gamut of perspectives, from adult entertainment mogul Ron Jeremy to orthodox rabbi Mark Dratch - and covering a broad spectrum of subjects (sex work, ménage à trois, etc.) - the compilation provides many useful recommendations. But some of them seem self-evident: AIDS doctor Jeffrey Burack pleads for full and early disclosure of STDs to prospective partners, and Hanne Blank cautions against prostitution. Despite the fascination often associated with sex, this volume is somewhat dry and predictable. About the Author
Don Knowles has been writing automotive training materials for over 28 years, with 54 textbooks to his credit, as well as student manuals, training CDs, and short articles for service bulletins. He was previously employed as an automotive instructor at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) Palliser Campus, where he produced over 60 automotive training videos and wrote a computer-assisted instruction (CAI) program to coordinate with each video. Mr. Knowles is currently the owner and manager of Knowles Automotive Training, a company focused exclusively on the preparation of automotive training materials and an educational member of the Automotive Service Association (ASA). An ASE certified Automotive Technician, he has also been a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers for over 30 years, and is a member of the North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT).

This book only has sample questions with answers for the ASE and hints to help you. It never actually explains how different components and systems work. It's only good if you already know about these types of vehicles, otherwise you can't even answer the questions.

About the Author
Ann Miles Gordon has been an early childhood professional for more than 45 years as a teacher of young children, a teacher of parents, and a teacher of college students. She has taught in laboratory schools, church-related centers, and private and public preschool and kindergarten programs. Ann taught at the Bing Nursery School, the laboratory school for Stanford University's Department of Psychology, where she was a head teacher and lecturer in the Psychology Department. Ann also served as an adjunct faculty member in several community colleges, teaching the full gamut of early childhood courses. Ann served as executive director of the National Association of Episcopal Schools for 14 years, where more than 1,100 early childhood programs were a part of her network. Ann is semi-retired and a hands-on grandmother of two, through which she brings an enhanced perspective on center-based care and early elementary grades.

Kathryn Williams Browne has been teaching children, families, and students for more than 30 years. First a teacher of young children--in nursery school, parent cooperatives, full-day child care, pre-kindergarten, bilingual pre-school, kindergarten, and first grade--she moved to Stanford University's lab school, where she served as head teacher and psychology lecturer. Co-authoring with Ann Miles Gordon was enhanced by Kate's role as a parent, while her consultant and school board experience offered perspectives on public policy and reform. Kate teaches in the California Community College system and Early Childhood Mentor program, which offer the richness of a diverse student population coupled with the challenges of access and privilege that parallel those in the early education field itself.

Luckily, this volume isn't afraid to address the homogenous fallacies that have plagued our society and discusses significantly the exploration of truly modern theories embraced around the world. Plain vanilla, easy to read old testament.

I wanted to find an easy to read, large print old testament bible and this one is just that. No fancy gold edges to the pages, no fancy cover, just nice large print in a book size that's easy to hold. The book is reasonably priced and was quickly shipped. I was very satisfied with this transaction. I feel like I was on the receiving end of the Golden Rule, it was done unto me as I would like it done. :-)

Just Right

This translation is one of the best. I like the size of the Pocket Edition because it is convenient for traveling. The pages are thick and durable and the print is clear.

It's the Bible

I grew up Christian or sorts but ended up atheist (what a surprise). I am not an expert on theology but out of sheer interest I decided to read a few religious texts word for word to see what I missed. I heard the JPS translation is where to go for the Hebrew Bible (the JPS translations are often referenced by official Jewish organisations in Israel).

This translation is very easy to understand and not in any way like KJV or similar versions. Nor is this whitewashed in any way when it comes to 'violent' parts.

I would suggest if you can get a larger version to do so. The paperback can be very difficult to hold open when you are not near the middle, especially when you are closer to the end of the text.
