Ruth and Boaz: Strangers in the Land, by Terri L. Fivash

Ruth and Boaz is much more than just a simple love story.  The narrative tells the tale of two people in Judah, Ruth the Moabitess, an exceptionally talented singer and composer with a very special harp, and Boaz, the descendent of a Jericho prostitute who has lost everyone he loves. Both are chosen by Yahweh to step outside the boundaries of the usual and the expected and dare to trust in a God who always thinks outside the box. The way is hard, but the harvest for both is more than they could have imagined.

From the Back Cover
"If you were the last man in Bethlehem, I'd never give Naomi to you!  Do you think I'd stain her pure blood with your tainted blood?  You're nothing but a dirty Canaanite.  How dare you even consider my daughter?  Get out of this house!"

And so Boaz lost Naomi, the most beautiful bride in Bethlehem, to Elimelech.  Instead Yahweh gave him Mena--then took her back.  And now their son, Yatom, joy of his heart, was dying.  Why were the anchors of his life being swept away?  Why would Yahweh punish him so?  Did He, too, detest the foreign blood flowing in his veins?

With a cast of more than 70 characters and a plot that tugs at the heart, Terri Fivash, author of Joseph, breathes new life into the story of Ruth--singer of songs, faithful friend, and daughter of royalty.  But who would have a stranger from a foreign land?

This is a story of Yahweh's harvest, the harvest of life.  As the sun-golden grain ripens only through the rain, so He turns tragedy into blessing, and empties only to fill full.  Our times are in His hand.

But back to the beginning.  Young Boaz, at play in the fields of Bethlehem, little knew he was a special seedling in Yahweh's garden.  All he knew was that the raiders were coming . . .

Powerful
By Amazon Customer
Terri L. Fivash delivers another amazing book, yet again! This book was not quite as fast-paced or exciting as any of the Dahveed books or Joseph, but that was someone nice after reading so many action-packed books. Ruth and Boaz also has a huge amount of heart, and some insights into the culture and what things would have actually been like that no one has ever pointed out to me before. After reading this book, the whole story made much more sense because of what Boaz says to Tobeh when he confronts him at the gate about Ruth. As for spiritual insights in the book, Fivash makes some very powerful statements about God and His ever-perfect plans for our lives.

It was a very good read. This author does fantastic research and you feel as if you are truly in the time of the story. Very believeable. The book notes and character descriptions are very helpful. It left me wishing for the story to be continued, alas there are no more biblical writings to do so.

Everyone Needs Grace!
By Betty L. Sheldon
Terri Fivash, injects vibrant life into my favorite biblical romance of Ruth and Boaz. Interesting insights, based on Fivash's extensive research into the culture and times of her characters, enable the reader to better understand the actions of the characters in the story. For instance, Ruth's marriage proposal to Boaz had always seemed out of character to me. Now I have a clearer picture of this episode. The author treats each episode with sensitivity without losing anything from her graphic descriptions.

RUTH & BOAZE captured my attention equally, as well as, the author's account of JOSEPH! Fivash graphically reveals the thoughts and emotions of her characters. Each chapter left me feeling as though I had actually been there!

Throughout the entire story, God's grace comes through clearly. However, as in JOSEPH, individuals must make a choice whether or not to receive His grace. If not, they do "reap what they sow!"

Betty L. Sheldon, author of OMNIPIECE
